I sort of disagree with the idealistic and utopian overtones of these. I agree that the next major cultural shift is to an information society. Perhaps not an information economy, but a world where information isn’t tied a specific format, physical or electronic — celluloid, paper, optical disc, or file format.

That, above all else, is what I see as the key to an open information society.

There are a lot of specific things in these videos I think are evolving right now. We’re already shifting into an information society, and I think an information economy will follow. How quickly it will follow, I don’t know. Technology will be the big determiner!
As far as the utopia topic, I do think it would take another World War for us to move into a unified direct-democracy as quickly as they suggested, technological advancements aside. I mean, a unified planet within 50 years? It’s the future, so I won’t discount it, but yikes, is that a tall order! Makes me want to do my Bones/Genesis soliloquy.
Lastly, I thought these videos were put together quite well. The visuals and pacing were cool. The score was subtle but powerful. All the elements were well thought out and contributed to the feeling I was watching the intro to a sci-fi film. Kind of inspiring actually.

Of course, there are a few spots where the translation becomes comical. But the cool accent outweighs that!

Does it inspire anyone to START ON THE SCRIPT for anything? Really now… I have no idea what I’m doing so a certain fedora-clad man is going to have to get it going.

What makes you think any of us knows what we’re doing? It certainly never stopped Ryan or I in the past. Try jumping in yourself. I think you’ll actually like it! Also, why haven’t you posted “the announcement” yet?

Stacy on February 5th, 2009 at 1:41 am #

Didn’t Ryan already post it? What else is there to say?

Trey on February 5th, 2009 at 2:34 am #

There’s an unpublished, untitled post sitting in the que with your name on it.

Hey, wait a minute! Why aren’t you commenting about the post these comments pertain?!

Stacy on February 5th, 2009 at 6:55 pm #

Oh, sorry. I’ll get right on that… As soon as I watch the videos.

On the technical side, I really enjoyed these videos. They were done well.
I agree with Ryan about the Utopian overtones. Sounds more like a Brave New World to me, which is not my idea of Utopia (or even of a good life). To be honest, this scares me. I hope we don’t become constantly hooked to the internet. It will isolate us even further from true human contact. Like it said, I can be whoever I want on the internet. It takes all the work out of character shaping and growing as a person. If I want a new quality, I make an avatar for it. If I want to be evil and commit crimes, I make an avatar for it. Yikes!

The second video brings up a good point that communication (good communication, I guess) is integral to changing the minds of the masses. It is also important in control and subjugation. This is why God confused the languages; if humans could/would all communicate easily, we could accomplish anything.

How’s that, Trey?

Yes. That’ll suffice.
