Stu Maschwitz posted on is blog Prolost, that The Orphanage will be closing their doors for an indeterminate amount of time.
If you don’t know, The Orphanage was a feature visual effects, commercial production, and animation studio. They pretty much blazed the trail for digital intermediate work and visual effects in film for the past ten years. And, while beating us over the head with their logic and brilliance, pointed us in the right direction for the best possible future of digital cinema.
The Orphanage also created Magic Bullet, software plug-ins Ryan and I have coveted ever since they were released. Seeing the DV work of The Orphanage gang all those years ago was very inspirational and we’ve been sold on the idea of digital filmmaking ever since. Somehow I get the feeling, all the high-end work The Orphanage pioneered was done to prepare Hollywood for the rising generation of digital filmmakers they helped spawn.
So, hats off to The Orphanage! I can’t wait to see what you guys do next!
Update: The Orphanage Animation Studio is a separate company, and as such, will not be ceasing operations. Woo-hoo!!
